A mural festival produced by Flare Ōtautahi Street Art Festival, Watch This Space and PangeaSeed is coming to New Brighton on 8-18 February 2026.

Sea Signals is a festival with a purpose - using art to share messages about ocean conservation.

The collection of local, national and international artists will create powerful mural works around the central city and in coastal areas, informed by local research around the moana - themes include the Antarctic, Coastal Resilience & Urban Futures, Biodiversity & Ecosystem Health and Cultural Knowledge & Ocean Stewardship. The festival will run from February 8-18, with more than 10 large murals produced with one in New Brighton!

The New Brighton work will be painted by Christchurch based Chilean Chile One - who also painted the colourful hoarding around the site where his large mural will be painted. Chile's work is inspired by Joyce Yaeger's research in the mesopelagic zone of the Whakaraupo Basin.
