If we’re lucky, we’ll all find ourselves growing old at some point. As we age, there are often a host of changes and challenges that come for us, which can become overwhelming. Everyone deserves to have a voice in the decisions that affect their lives. The Eldernet Group, based in New Brighton, Christchurch, have created a helpful informational handbook – Where from here | He ara whakamua - to give you the confidence to take control of your journey.

With so much information available around ageing, it can be hard to know what’s truly important. That’s why The Eldernet Group created this book. Since they are a family-run, independent business, you can be sure that all the information you find in Where from here is unbiased and impartial: it has been designed to empower older people, not influence them. They have compiled all the facts and figures, and interpreted confusing terms on topics ranging from Enduring Powers of Attorney, rest homes, retirement villages, financial considerations, and more.

So, who is this book for? You might be an older person looking for support, or a carer wanting to learn more. Perhaps you’re a young person with an age-related condition, or 100 years old and fit as a fiddle, but interested in how you can support your older friends. In short, Where from here is for everyone who wants to learn more about the ageing journey.
Where from here is produced for four regions across Aotearoa: Upper-North Island, Mid-North Island, Lower-North Island, and the South Island. You can find copies in your local health centres, libraries, and many other community spaces. If you’re a New Brighton Local, you can pick up a copy of the South Island edition from the box outside our building, on Shaw Avenue.
